Forms Of Prose Fiction
Novel- a fictious prose story of a book length.
Novella- a short novel or narrative story; tale.
Short Story- a fully developed story that is shorter than a novella.
Element of Prose Fiction
Narrative Techniques- the narrative skills or types of writing used by the author.
Point of View- the way in which the narrator percieves and approaches to his material.
Characterization- the way in which a writer creates his character in a play.
Setting- this involves the time, place, environment and surroundings presented in a play.
Theme- the main ideas of a play which in some cases obvious.
Plot- the main events in a novel.
Style- the characterizatic manner in which a writer expresses his or herself.
Literary Devices
Imagery- a writer's use of words to create pictures in the mind's of its readers.
Symbol- objects use to signify or represent something else.
Irony- saying the opposite of what was intended in order to make an emphasis.
Sattire- using humor or exaggeration to show the bad or weak qualities in a person or object.
Allusion- the reference of a passing historical or biblical event presented in a work of literature.
Structural Devices
Stream of Consciousness- a common narrative technique in a modern novel attempting to carry in word the process of thoughts.
Interior Monologue- a passage of writing proceeding a character's inner thoughts and emotinos in a direct manner or sometimes in a distorted manner.
Flashback- going back in a film or play to an event that has already occured.
Foreshadowing- a sign of something that is to come.
Time Frame- a given interval of time in relation to a particular event.
Motif- when some aspect in a literary work is frequently reoccuring.
Juxtoposition- side by side or close together.

Short-short Story- is a fictious work that is usually written in prose or narrative format.
Vignette- a short descriptive essay or character sketch.
Prose Poem- a piece of imaginative poetic writing in a prose.
Antinovel- a novel in which forms of a regular story is puposely avoided.
Novelette- a short, light, romantic novel.
Types of fiction
Literary fiction- focuses on the style ,depth and character of a story. The plot may or may not be important.
Social Fiction- is a story dicussing or speculating human behaviour or interactions in society.
Historical fiction- is a story set in the past. It is usually referred to historical persons but principal characters tend to be fictional.
Moral fiction- is a story fictiously set to attempt to test human values to promote human fulfillment.
Political Fiction- is commentary used to criticize an existing society's political events.
Religious fiction- a fictious story that is based on religious texts or beliefs.
Ethnic fiction- a story based on the different races (mostly their background) either by degrading one race and praising the other.
Cultural Fiction- a fictious story based on actual events celebrated in different countries by different ethnicities.
